Backward masking is where a section that has already been recorded is spliced into the original song backwards. Then if someone plays the song backwards you can then understand it, however forwards doesn’t reveal anything intelligible.

Research by David Oates has lead to his theory that children learn to speak backwards before they do forwards. David drew this conclusion after listening to many different children in reverse from very when they were born to toddler age. His first reversal discovery was at age 4 months old where he found single words. Then as the child grew more than one word could be found to form short sentences.

Not the kind of thing I’m comfortable listening to alone in the dark. Brrrr.
