De woorden, trouwens, waar ik geen definitie van kon geven (maar nu dus wel en voor heel lang in de toekomst, want ik vergeet dergelijke dingen dan niet echt meer):

pother (woord van onbekende oorsprong, verschijnt in de literatuur in de vroege 17de eeuw.

1. A choking smoke or atmosphere of dust. to kick up a pother, to raise a choking dust.
2. a Disturbance, commotion, turmoil, bustle; a tumult, uproar; a noise, din. Cf. dust n.1 5. b transf. A verbal commotion, stir, or fuss.
3. Mental perturbation or tumult; trouble, fuss; display of sorrow or grief.   

vibrissæ (van het Latijn vibrāre, vibreren — ik dacht dat het trilharen waren maar ik was er niet zeker van; blijkt in eerste betekeneis neusharen te zijn)

III. 730/1 Those hairs‥ which converge from the inner circumference towards the centre of the nostril.‥ These hairs are of the kind named vibrissæ.    1875 Encycl. Brit. 2. Zool. Stiff or bristly hairs, esp. those growing about the mouth or other parts of the face in certain animals.
3. Ornith. The coarse hairs or bristles growing about the rictus of certain birds, esp. of insectivorous species.

opsimath [ad. Gr. ὀψιµαθής: see next.]

1. One who begins to learn or study late in life.
   1883 Ch. Times 9 Feb. 97 Those who gave the name were not simple enough to think that even an opsimath was not something better than a contented dunce.    1883 Sat. Rev. 3 Feb. 159/1 [He] is what the Greeks called an opsimath; not ignorant, but a laggard in learning.
