In Animatrix richten de robots de republiek 01 op. Zero one.

Zou het niet mooi zijn mocht in de nieuwe afleveringen van The Matrix blijken dat Zion eigenlijk hetzelfde is als Zero-one? Dat Neo en de rest eigenlijk robots/androids zijn, en de “Agents” ofwel mensen (programmeurs, en dus daarom zoveel sneller etc. dan de gewone robots) ofwel speciale programma’s in de Matrix?

Dan zouden de plotgaten rond het “energie opwekken” kunnen gedicht worden en zou de Matrix eigenlijk een massieve beowulf cluster van androiden zijn waarin de robots eindeloos simulaties draaien.

En dan zou er iets heroisch zijn in die bende rond Morpheus: robots die gevangen zitten in hun programmatie, en toch alsnog proberen hun eigen beperkingen te overstijgen–in plaats van zielige idioten die naar semi-mystieke ervaringen zitten te zoeken.

Dan zitten we nog met zaken als het Oracle. Misschien is de Matrix is een simulatie, maar is het “echte leven” waar Neo naar gehaald werd door Morpheus maar een verder niveau van simulatie, iets als een net iets andere runlevel.

Tiens mijn weblog op Blogger bestond nog. Vreemd.

Het is pas als het serieus misloopt met mail dat een mens merkt hoe afhankelijk hij ervan is. Het is op het ogenblik zo’n beetje een tantaloskwelling; de mails staan juist voor mijn neus, maar het duurt nu al 110 seconden om één mail open te krijgen. Grrr.

’t Was daarjuist wel een goede vergadering. Niet echt financieel interessant helaas, maar wel sympathieke mensen.

Jongens toch… Slashdot is echt wel idiotieën aan het oprakelen (I know, what else is new). Deze keer is het een acht jaar oud interview met Bill Gates waar hij redelijk geïrriteerd probeert uit te leggen dat Microsoft helemaal niet zoveel bug reports krijgt, en dat ze nieuwe versies niet maken om bugs te verbeteren (daar dienen patches voor).

Has-been company sold at garage sale

The once-dominant Internet search engine AltaVista has been sold to Overture for $60m in cash and $80m in shares, pocket fluff compared to the $2.4bn paid for it by CMGI in 1998.

The AltaVista search engine, which once held the position Google holds now, was originally developed by DEC to show off its hardware, but through aquisitions, first Compaq, again swallowed by Hewlett-Packard, the showcase value was gradually eroded.

Mostly, the value of the search engine was diminished by sale of prominent placement on searches, making it less and less likely you found what you really were searching for and more likely you just got advertising. In addition it became a cottage industry to advise people on how to boost your rankings on its searches, with elaborate meta tags and a significant number of ever-changing tricks. When google came along, with superiour technology and business ethics, AltaVista was dead in the water.

Overture, who purchased it, is a company specialising in rigging search results on search engines. Say no more.
